Pool gold

If I had a pool
it would be just this
Alone under desert sky a wonder of dampend light crawling across the top
That turquoise gem angled in the midst of mounds of sand and twilight
a layer of scatter
a layer of peace
a row of darkness blue tile lined, color of the sky the moment before night
and here a single star
insignificant.
As this simple rectangle of water and streetlight, old and red, causing gold ripples of mermaid hair to brush the contoured, pale pool bottom.
Cricket or no cricket.
Adobe hotel on the mother road
dripped on by mother night.
